Rising sign calculator
Enter your birth date, time and place. The rising sign changes every two hours or so, so it needs a time; without one, we show when each sign was rising at your birthplace that day.
Why your rising sign needs a time and a place
The Earth turns once a day, so all twelve signs rise over the eastern horizon in about 24 hours: around two hours each on average. Near the equator they take roughly equal turns. Farther from it, some signs rise in under an hour and others take three or more.
So the rising sign depends on the minute and the place of birth. A few minutes can change it, and the same moment gives different rising signs in London and in Sydney. Without a time, the honest answer is a list of windows, which is what this calculator gives you.
How this is computed
Each window edge is the moment the Ascendant crosses from one sign into the next at your birthplace, computed by our engine when you ask. On 24 test days, from the equator to 78° north and south, every edge agrees with Swiss Ephemeris outputs within 2 seconds; we print the nearest minute. Astrology is a symbolic language, not a science: this calculator is exact about the astronomy.
